SIB-Utrecht is a student association that focuses on international relations. As the organization is associated with the United Nations, its English name is DUNSA: the Dutch United Nations Student Association.
The main goal of DUNSA is to enhance the awareness for international affairs among students. This results in a weekly lecture on Tuesday evening and several other activities. The lectures cover a wide range of subjects, e.g. international politics, security policy, NATO, UN, development cooperation, and human rights.
Noteworthy recent speakers of the Tuesday evening program are Robert Cooper (Director-General for External and Politico-Military Affairs at the European Union), Dries van Agt (Former Prime Minister), Eimert van Middelkoop (Former Minister of Defense), Mart de Kruijf (Major General of the Dutch Army), Z.E. Nexhmi Rexhepi (ambassador of Kosovo to The Netherlands), and George Weiss (journalist and documentary maker).
The weekly lecture usually takes place in Instituto Cervantes (Domplein 3, Utrecht) at 7:30 pm every Tuesday. The lectures are always open to the public and free of charge. Afterwards, there is an open social drink in our favorite pub, the Nieuwe Dikke Dries.
Furthermore, there are many ways to become an active member of the student association. DUNSA consists of many committees and societies that organize both social and content concerning activities.
If we have raised your interest and you are a student, you can become a member of DUNSA and perhaps help to plan future activities. For more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
